FRSD is basically a conservation organization and all our projects are cross-cultural in character emphasizing community participation and with a focus on environmental education, practical conservation initiatives, science and research aimed at Endogenous Development. We strongly believe that our local community’s involvement and collaboration is essential to conservation.

FRSD’S Interventions

  • Environmental Education on Invasive Alien Species and the Primates in the Western Ghats Mountain area, Theni District, supported by the KNCF, Japan.
  • Conservation Education on Primates/Slender loris (L.tardigradus) in the Eastern Ghats mountain, Dindigul District, supported by the Audubon Naturalist Society, USA and the International Primatological Society.


  • Environmental Awareness Campaigns on Biodiversity Conservation, climate change, water, sacred groves, natural resources and traditional knowledge supported by the Government of India and other agencies.
  • Surveying Education/disaster management for NGOs, policy makers, coastal communities and personnel of the Survey Department supported by the FIG Foundation, Denmark.
  • Documentation of the Flora and Fauna of the Western Ghats Mountain, Theni, Virudhunagar, Dindigul, Madurai, and Tirunelveli Districts, supported by the Government of India.
  • Promoting Indian System of Medicines among rural people in Madurai District supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
  • Tree Plantation and promotion of Kitchen Herbal Gardens in rural pockets supported by Networking Voluntary Organizations.
  • Empowering rural and indigenous communities through awareness generation, income generation programs, education and sensitization programs supported by the Strathspey Charitable Trust, UK and the YSA, USA.
  • Conservation of Mountain Ecosystem and Biodiversity in the Kurangani hills, supported by the GREEN, Theni District.
  • Training of farmers and voluntary organizations on Permaculture supported by the Permafund, Australia
  • Revitalization of traditional water purification technologies to combat water borne diseases in rural areas supported by the Pollination Project USA and the OTF, Canada.
